Imagine if you will, a game that encapsulates almost all of Greek mythology in a colorful, fast-paced, joy-stick controlled graphic adventure. This game also has multi-voice music, text, hi-res graphics effects, animations and the ability on the hard drive to save the game at will. Such a model exists, and is currently my favorite computer game, despite some mistakes that I will later point. RETURN of Heracles (ROH) is a game with plenty of power and asome weaknesses.
The setting is mythological Greece in the time of the heroes and the Trojan War. The country and all countries overrun with supernatural threats and monsters. Zeus, king of the Olympian gods, has determined that these threats-such as the Nemean lion, the Caledonian boar, and the immortal Hydra will be destroyed. They give a controlling or more heroes (as many as possible up to the total number want) to do the job. Their characters, whether they are Achilles,Jason, Odysseus, or the many other, move the country struggling to gather resources, purchasing and delivers training.
If all goes well, you and your friends reach the 12 works of Zeus and receive a fantastic reward. If not, you will all die. I think you will agree that a fair number of alternatives for a computer game. The game is transparent. The rules explain. Although documentation comes with it, you'll never againto read. You can play bad, but there is no way to do something wrong. And unlike certain text adventures, where to find the right words, or you get nowhere, you will always accomplish something, as long as you only move the characters. The multiple screens with animated graphics sprite (in the Atari version) and accompanying music are strong elements in ROH. I counted over 30 different sprites (player-missile) involved in the game, and most of them areanimated.
By the way, your enemies are controlled by the computer, and they are also animated, both in terms of movement on the screen and in apparently acting with intent. After numerical attributes such as strength, vitality, speed, richness, armor, weapons, characters also have stories and personalities, so that the player the true joy of role play with them. Although the same sprite is used to both Achilles and Odysseus is, the two heroes behave in very different ways. ROH will give pleasure for many hours of playing, as you can and all the game again in all, I recommend to all who would like ROH a graphic role-playing adventure with an unusual taste.
